“The Silent Guitar” is a collection of paintings featuring a flamenco dancer wanted by law set in the desert heat of Old World Spain with the sky set ablaze with brilliant oranges, yellows, and reds. Her flowing red dress embodies her sass and sex appeal and her identity is concealed by a low-hanging Andalusian hat. She wields guitars with sharp edges as her weaponry, sometimes accompanied with spears for added force. The loose brushstrokes and abstract guitars represent Sharif’s love of music and his defiance to follow traditional rules both in life and his painting technique.
